Finding Your Support Network
When you decide that intermittent fasting (IF) is something you want to try, it’s a great idea to talk to those closest to you about your plans. If you live solo, without a partner or roommate, you can skip this part. However, for those sharing their home with a partner or family, open communication is key. Ask for their support, and even better, see if they’d like to join you on this journey. Having my each other to embrace this lifestyle together has been incredible, and it can be the same for you.
Some partners will be fully supportive, others may have reservations, and some might challenge you. It’s important to listen to their concerns and address any questions they may have without getting frustrated. If you don’t know the answer, simply say you’ll find out. Having your partner on board can make the experience much more enjoyable and motivating. If they decide to join you, be emotionally supportive of one another—it’s incredibly powerful.
Remember that men and women can experience different results with IF, which can sometimes be frustrating. Women’s bodies are hormonally complex, which can make balancing hormones a bit trickier, so weight loss or other benefits may come at different rates. It’s important not to compare your progress to your partner’s or anyone else’s. Focus on your own journey and offer encouragement along the way.
Life isn’t perfect, and neither are we. There will be times when you go off track, and that’s okay. The key is getting back on course quickly. Find a community of like-minded individuals who can support you, whether through social media groups or in-person connections. At HYH, we’ve created a WhatsApp community for this very reason.
Lastly, enjoy life! Don’t feel guilty when you indulge at holidays or special events. Just remember to get back on track and keep moving forward on your journey.
