We’re Lucie and Rich, a busy husband-and-wife team from Cheltenham, raising two kids and two cats. We're an ordinary couple with an extraordinary vision—one we’re eager to share with the world! Both sick of feeling sluggish, unmotivated and more importantly over-weight, we set out on a wellness journey that revolutionised our way of life.
This has brought us to Hapi Yaki.
Building on the success of our catering business, our passion for great food, and a desire to promote a healthier lifestyle, we’ve poured our heart and soul into creating Hapi Yaki. Now, we’re thrilled to introduce the Hapi Yaki Health Programme—an all-encompassing ‘way of life’ that combines guided intermittent fasting with a satisfying, delicious food plan.
Our programme goes beyond just a meal plan. It's a holistic journey, equipped with all the resources and information you'll need to transform your relationship with food. Through this process, you'll not only learn the "whys" and "whats" of the ingredients we use, but also gain valuable, lifelong skills in the kitchen. Hapi Yaki is our personal knowledge and experience from living this powerful lifestyle. We’ve leaned on our background in catering, endless passion for food, knowledge and experience to curate an incredible wellness hub - something we wished we had at the beginning of our journey!

Our Journey
Lucie
I spent my 30’s raising our children and running a catering business, leaving little time or energy to focus on myself. By the end of that phase, I was overweight and felt like I was losing touch with who I really was. I've always been a positive person, but when I looked in the mirror, I wasn’t happy. As I approached my 40th birthday, I made myself a promise to change that.
Like many, I had tried countless fad diets, only to gain more weight each time. My mindset wasn’t right, and I was trapped in a cycle of binge eating. I’d heard of intermittent fasting (IF) but had never seriously considered it—just the idea of going without food scared me. But, a friend then recommended a book that was ‘worth a read.’ I had an audiobook version of Fast Like a Girl by Dr. Mindy Pelz queued up, and one day while working, I decided to press play. My life changed forever that day.
As a self-confessed foodie with a background in hospitality, I’ve always had a deep love for great food. With my new understanding of IF and years of experience creating delicious dishes, I knew I had a winning combination. I began developing whole-food recipes, cutting out refined carbs and sugar, and soon, the weight started falling off. But it wasn’t just the weight loss—I felt back in control. I was eating the best I ever had, and with that came a new level of confidence and focus. My energy skyrocketed, and my passion for life returned stronger than ever.
When Rich joined me on this journey, it elevated everything even more. We became more connected as a couple, more patient with each other during tough times, and we laugh all the time. I couldn’t ask for a better partner to share this experience with!
My 'eureka' moment came when I realised that if this worked for us, it could work for so many others too. I dove into the science behind IF, absorbing podcasts, books, and articles to deepen my understanding of how our bodies work. That journey has led us here—creating the Hapi Yaki Health Programme—and I couldn’t be more proud.
Today, I have a healthy relationship with food, driven by a transformed mindset, and I can’t express how liberating that feels.

After a particularly stressful year as I turned 40, my anxiety was through the roof. It hit me hard. I was drinking too much, eating poorly, and feeling completely off balance. Around that time, Lucie had already started her intermittent fasting journey, and I began to notice a real shift in her—she wasn’t just losing weight, but her positivity, confidence, and overall well-being were transforming before my eyes.
I was regularly going to the gym and making small improvements to my diet, but I still didn’t feel the way she did. I wasn’t in this for weight loss—I’ve never been particularly concerned about that—but I knew something had to change in my mindset. My anxiety was crippling, and I felt like I was just going through the motions. So, I decided to give fasting a try, committing fully to it along with my diet.
I’ll admit, I was sceptical at first. The idea of intermittent fasting seemed a bit extreme to me, but I trusted Lucie’s experience. It didn’t take long before I started to notice the benefits. We were eating the best meals we’d ever had—delicious, whole foods that left us feeling truly satisfied. Surprisingly, I found that my patience, which had always been short, started to improve. I wasn’t as irritable, and my mood stabilised. Without even focusing on weight loss, I started to shed a few pounds naturally. More importantly, my anxiety began to lift. I felt clearer, more focused, and much more confident in myself. It was a total game-changer.
I began getting more out of my workouts too. I felt stronger, fitter, and more energised than ever before. It was incredible how this shift in my diet and mindset had such a profound effect on not just my body, but my mental well-being. I honestly can’t imagine living any other way now. Fasting and mindful eating have given me a new zest for life.
Before all this, I’d always had a gym membership, but I was the guy who’d hit the gym and then hit the pub, pint in hand. I’ve since cut back significantly on alcohol, but don’t get me wrong—I still love taking Lucie out for cocktails and a great meal, or catching up with my mates over a few drinks at the local. The difference now is that I’m much more mindful of the effect it has on me. I can make a conscious choice about how much I eat and drink because I know how it’ll impact me the next day.
What’s important to me is that I can still enjoy those moments—whether it’s a night out or a great meal—but now, I can wake up the next morning feeling great, hit the gym, run around with the kids at a trampoline park, or spend an afternoon cooking an amazing lunch with music on in the background. That balance is everything to me. I’m no longer stuck on the sofa, hungover and feeling terrible. Instead, I’m living life to the fullest.
With this new way of living, I can enjoy the best of both worlds. It’s been so much more rewarding than I ever imagined.
